I am one of those who are trying to make computers capable of "seeing". I also often engage myself with spirituality (mostly Indian branches). Otherwise, I like reading classic literature, hiking, playing football and watching cricket, nice movies and music, and above all, good (vegie)food.

ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮನ ಕಗ್ಗ ೫

ದೇವರೆಂಬುದೇನು ಕಗ್ಗತ್ತಲೆಯ ಗವಿಯೆ? |
ನಾವರಿಯಲಾರದೆಲ್ಲದರೊಟ್ಟು ಹೆಸರೆ? ||
ಕಾವನೊರ್ವನಿರಲ್ಕೆ ಜಗದ ಕಥೆಯೇಕಿಂತು? |
ಸಾವು ಹುಟ್ಟುಗಳೇನು? - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ || ೫ ||

5: What is God? A dark cave? The sum-total of all that we can not understand? If there is some entity to watch over the world, why is the world so chaotic then? Oh Mankutimma! What are births and deaths?

Hi Mahesh,

Nice venture and nice to read... one question, who is 'Mankutimma' the poet refers to? What does it mean?

Mankutimma is like a pen name. Like in Ghalib's shayari he says Ghalib at the end of a section( eg:tuu ne qasam hai_kashii kii khaa_ii hai 'Ghalib';
terii qasam ka kuchh aitabaar nahii.n hai ).
The verses are as if they are addressed to some imaginary guy called Mankutimma.
